Develope a Palate

Develope a Palate
Daily intake of the Word nourishes the Spirit. Jeremiah's Menu is an exercise in recognizing God's Word made flesh in and around me. Eating the Word in a way that supplies the spiritual nutrients needed to grow. The Menu is offered with the hope of inspiring you to taste and see that the Lord is good. Bon Appetite!

Quote Du Jour

Quote du Jour
Christians may differ on a variety of points, but they have all one spiritual appetite; and if we cannot all feel alike, we can all feed alike on the bread of life sent down from heaven. At the table of fellowship with Jesus we are one bread and one cup. As the loving cup goes round we pledge one another heartily therein. Get nearer to Jesus, and you will find yourself linked more and more in spirit to all who are like yourself, supported by the same heavenly manna. ---Charles Spurgeon, Morning and Evening

undone...

There's peace in the car...
driving home in the dark...
encased by night... stars shining...

The road narrow...
under construction...
no shoulders... and no fear...
the way feels wide...

But once home...
pressures weigh...
I come undone...
words come sharp...
and I wonder why...?

It's like I forgot...
forgot... He's near...
forgot... He's responsible...
for all the things undone...

After letting go...
peace returns...
and remember...
He will not leave me undone...

"... And I will not leave them undone."
Isaiah 42:16 NASB

wait on Him... Psalm 106:9-15...

He rebuked the Red Sea, and it became dry,
and he led them through the deep as through a desert.
So he saved them from the hand of the foe
and redeemed them from the power of the enemy.
And the waters covered their adversaries;
not one of them was left.
Then they believed his words; they sang his praise.
But they soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.
But they had a wanton craving in the wilderness,
and put God to the test in the desert; he gave them what they asked,
but sent a wasting disease among them.
Psalm 106:9-15 ESV

Yesterday... we saw one who waited well...
praising Him... waiting on Him...
even though feeling swept away by trouble...

Today our verses reveal how NOT to wait...

Forgetful waiting forgets His past faithfulness...
in showing up to rescue...
and lead through wilderness ways...

Forgetful waiting is tragic...
leads to craving... begging for what you want...
not for what God knows you need...

In His grace... if we persist...
He answers even the most destructive prayers...
but He sends along with it an emptiness...
a wasting disease...
because what we think we want...
when we've forgotten to wait for Him...
is what will destroy us...

The emptiness of what we desire...
may just turn our hearts back to Him...
and place us in just the right circumstances...
for us to begin waiting on Him...

Have you ever gotten what you most desired...? longed for...? but found it to be empty...?

Consider His grace in the midst...
cease forgetful waiting...
and begin again to wait on Him...
faith-fully...

freedom to forget...

Not till this morning... did I remember... I forgot to post yesterday...

And I realize... there's freedom in forgetting...
the freedom to allow Him...
to choose the day off... from writing...

In His sovereignty... He allowed a forgetting...
so I could learn... He orders my day...

In his heart a man plans his course,
but the Lord determines his steps.
Proverbs 16:9

The Journey Readings: Week 90... and... forgot again...!

A full day... preparing for a full week...
led me to forget to post yesterday...

No excuses really...
even though I could list a few...
thought about it once... briefly...
then head filled... time filled...
with other things...
looking ahead...
instead of at the present...

I'm sure there's a Proverb for this somewhere...

Hear, my son, and be wise,
and direct your heart in the way.
Proverbs 23:19 ESV

His way is the way of present tense...
the only place He is... I am who I am...

I didn't direct my heart in the present...
too concerned with what was coming...
too concerned with the shortness of time... and the much to do...

In the looking forward...
I missed what was to be done in the moment...

Today... I find myself grateful for His grace...
and more attentive to today...

This week's readings...

Tuesday             Proverbs 31
Wednesday       Ecclesiastes 1-2
Thursday           Ecclesiastes 3-4

forgetting...

In this week's forgetting... I'm reminded He doesn't...

He doesn't forget where we are... or what we need...

You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.
Psalm 139:5-6 ESV

He will never leave us... or forsake us... because of absent-mindedness...

Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed,
for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9 ESV

He doesn't forget our loved ones... or our prayers for them...

And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer,
and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers
of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne,
and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints,
rose before God from the hand of the angel.
Revelation 8:3-4 ESV

He doesn't forget our tears... our sorrows...

You have kept count of my tossings,
put my tears in your bottle.
Are they not in your book?
Psalm 56:9 ESV

The only thing He does forget...?
His people's transgressions...

"I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions,
for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. ..."
Isaiah 43:25

Amen... and... Amen...
