[Jehoshaphat] walked in all the ways or customs of Asa his father,
never swerving from it, doing right in the sight of the Lord.
However, the [idolatrous] high places were not taken away;
for the people still sacrificed and burned incense
in the high places.
1 Kings 22:43 Amp
King Jehoshaphat walked as his father King Asa... doing right in the sight of the Lord... however... he let the high places remain... places of sacrifice and incense offering...
To my understanding... the sacrifices and offerings taking place during the reign of Asa and Jehoshaphat were to the Lord... and not pagan gods... but it was not the way God wanted to be worshiped...
These high places were left over from the previous inhabitants of the Promised Land... they were places the Israelites were to remove...
"Speak to the people of Israel and say to them,
When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from
before you and destroy all their figured stones and destroy
all their metal images and demolish all their high places. ..."
Numbers 33:51-52 ESV
Especially after the building of the temple... there was to be no other place for sacrifice... or offering incense... only the temple... anything else was against the law...
Even though Asa... Jehoshaphat... walked in God's way... doing right... there was this area of compromise left in the land... among the people... a place for the enemy to get a foothold...
Wherever there is compromise... a heart is prepared for sin...
So I wonder... Are there high places in my life...? areas of compromise where I'm not quite following His way...?
What about you...?
An important question to consider... I don't want the enemy to have access to my life in any way...
Do you...?
See what else you might need to consider... join The Journey...
