Develope a Palate

Develope a Palate
Daily intake of the Word nourishes the Spirit. Jeremiah's Menu is an exercise in recognizing God's Word made flesh in and around me. Eating the Word in a way that supplies the spiritual nutrients needed to grow. The Menu is offered with the hope of inspiring you to taste and see that the Lord is good. Bon Appetite!

Quote Du Jour

Quote du Jour
Christians may differ on a variety of points, but they have all one spiritual appetite; and if we cannot all feel alike, we can all feed alike on the bread of life sent down from heaven. At the table of fellowship with Jesus we are one bread and one cup. As the loving cup goes round we pledge one another heartily therein. Get nearer to Jesus, and you will find yourself linked more and more in spirit to all who are like yourself, supported by the same heavenly manna. ---Charles Spurgeon, Morning and Evening

The Journey Readings: Week 81... and He Is...

A very short passage caught my attention this week... during the reign of King Ahab... a man rebuilt Jericho...

In his days, Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho.
He laid its foundations at the cost of the life of Abiram
his firstborn, and set up its gates with the loss
of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the Lord
which He spoke through Joshua son of Nun.
1 Kings 16:34 Amp

This passage takes us all the way back to Joshua... the entrance into the Promised Land... and the destruction of Jericho...

The Israelites obeyed God's word... they marched around the wall... they blew the trumpets... the wall fell down...

Then Joshua laid this oath on them,
Cursed is the man before the Lord
who rises up and rebuilds this city, Jericho.
With the loss of his firstborn shall he lay its foundation,
and with the loss of his youngest son
shall he set up its gates.
Joshua 6:26 Amp

No one was ever to rebuild Jericho... it would come at a high cost... but at this time... 400-plus years later... the kingdom had split... the kings led the people astray away from God's Word... they had forgotten what He said... or maybe they thought it just didn't pertain to them anymore...

But God remembers... even if we forget... or pervert... His Word...

We need to remember God's promises... His words... are eternal...
He speaks them outside of time...
He still speaks them...

He does not change His mind as man does...
He does not change with the times...
He does not evolve...

God said this to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM."
And he said, "Say this to the people of Israel,
'I AM has sent me to you.'"
Exodus 3:14 ESV

HE IS... always present tense...
His Word always a foundation for our time... whatever time it may be...

Let's not make the same mistake as the man who rebuilt Jericho...
let's not lose His Word...
let's not deem it out of date... or behind the times...
let's not try to evolve it into something it isn't...
let's seek His understanding...
let's honor His Word... as He speaks it directly to us...

He Is... let's let Him be who He Is... in our lives...
