Develope a Palate

Develope a Palate
Daily intake of the Word nourishes the Spirit. Jeremiah's Menu is an exercise in recognizing God's Word made flesh in and around me. Eating the Word in a way that supplies the spiritual nutrients needed to grow. The Menu is offered with the hope of inspiring you to taste and see that the Lord is good. Bon Appetite!

Quote Du Jour

Quote du Jour
Christians may differ on a variety of points, but they have all one spiritual appetite; and if we cannot all feel alike, we can all feed alike on the bread of life sent down from heaven. At the table of fellowship with Jesus we are one bread and one cup. As the loving cup goes round we pledge one another heartily therein. Get nearer to Jesus, and you will find yourself linked more and more in spirit to all who are like yourself, supported by the same heavenly manna. ---Charles Spurgeon, Morning and Evening

The Journey Readings: Week 67... and the King of Glory...

Who is the King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle!
Psalm 24:8 ESV

Of all the psalms read this last week... this verse captured my attention most...

The King of Glory... Who is He...?
Strong and mighty in battle...!
His glory wrapped up in His strength...

I see Jesus... as the King of Glory...
but... coming out of Easter...
and the recent re-viewing of The Passion...
His strength... and might... in battle must be considered...

He battled differently than worldly kings...
including... King David...

Jesus's battle tactics are very different...

He died... in order to defeat the enemy...
He endured injustice...
His glory is found in His strength and might...
yet... He used His strength... not to fight against... but to bear under...

Bear under the sin of the world...
bear under the wrath of God...
bear it all in love... which held Him to the cross...

Another verse of psalm we read this week...

He trains my hands for war...
Psalm 18:34 ESV

He teaches us to battle... take on war...
but in light of who He is... and what He came to do...
what does this teaching look like...?

"Do not resist the one who is evil.
But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek,
turn to him the other also.
And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,
let him have your cloak as well.
And if anyone forces you to go one mile,
go with him two miles. ..."
Matthew 5:39-41 ESV

"... Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.
For he makes the sun rise on the evil and on the good,
and sends rain on the just and the unjust. ..."
Matthew 5:44-45 ESV

His battle plan is completely different... than any of this world...

For though we walk in the flesh,
we are not waging war according to the flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh
but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
2 Corinthians 10:3-4 ESV

The armor He provides... consists of...
truth...
righteousness...
the good news of peace...
faith...
salvation...
the Word of God...
prayer...

This is what we are to take up... to withstand the enemy...

Therefore take up the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand firm.
Ephesians 6:13 ESV

The singing of... Onward Christian Soldiers... in worship today...
took on a whole new meaning for me...

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
with the cross of Jesus going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
forward into battle see his banners go!

Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
with the cross of Jesus going on before.

Visions of Jesus... on the cross... filled my mind...
His banners we fight under...
love...
humility...
service...
sacrifice...
selflessness...
grace...
forgiveness...

A different kind of battle... a different kind of soldier...
