Develope a Palate

Develope a Palate
Daily intake of the Word nourishes the Spirit. Jeremiah's Menu is an exercise in recognizing God's Word made flesh in and around me. Eating the Word in a way that supplies the spiritual nutrients needed to grow. The Menu is offered with the hope of inspiring you to taste and see that the Lord is good. Bon Appetite!

Quote Du Jour

Quote du Jour
Christians may differ on a variety of points, but they have all one spiritual appetite; and if we cannot all feel alike, we can all feed alike on the bread of life sent down from heaven. At the table of fellowship with Jesus we are one bread and one cup. As the loving cup goes round we pledge one another heartily therein. Get nearer to Jesus, and you will find yourself linked more and more in spirit to all who are like yourself, supported by the same heavenly manna. ---Charles Spurgeon, Morning and Evening

wait on Him... Psalm 62:5...

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
Psalm 62:5 ESV

The verses today... follow the ones from yesterday's post...
and it sounds as if the psalmist suffers waiting woes too...

Now we hear him preaching to his own soul...
O my soul... wait in silence...

The verses between yesterday's and today's... reveal ongoing affliction...

How long will all of you attack a man to batter him,
like a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
They only plan to thrust him down from his high position.
they take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse.
Psalm 62:3-4 ESV

The psalmist waits... hopes... in God...
to bring justice... overcome evil... free from oppression...
all the while encouraging his soul... wait in silence...

The Hebrew translated as silence doesn't only mean be quiet...
but also... to cease activity... rest... (Dictionary of Biblical Languages)

How often... when injustice seems to prevail... do we get busy taking things in our own hands... trying to make things right ourselves...?

When we won't wait... rest... be still... in the difficulty...
we reveal a lack of trust... an unbelief... in God... who says He defends... and calls us to something different...

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God,
for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord."
To the contrary, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing
you will heap burning coals on his head."
Do not overcome evil by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans 12:19-21 ESV

Be silent... trust... rest... wait for Him...
He is faithful...
He will take care of things perfectly...
all in His time...
