Develope a Palate

Develope a Palate
Daily intake of the Word nourishes the Spirit. Jeremiah's Menu is an exercise in recognizing God's Word made flesh in and around me. Eating the Word in a way that supplies the spiritual nutrients needed to grow. The Menu is offered with the hope of inspiring you to taste and see that the Lord is good. Bon Appetite!

Quote Du Jour

Quote du Jour
Christians may differ on a variety of points, but they have all one spiritual appetite; and if we cannot all feel alike, we can all feed alike on the bread of life sent down from heaven. At the table of fellowship with Jesus we are one bread and one cup. As the loving cup goes round we pledge one another heartily therein. Get nearer to Jesus, and you will find yourself linked more and more in spirit to all who are like yourself, supported by the same heavenly manna. ---Charles Spurgeon, Morning and Evening

routine vs obedience

When obedience turns to routine… it’s hard to rest…

As I listened… and asked… for what to post yesterday… the word… Rest… that came in the afternoon… felt… uncomfortable

The rhythm of writing… the discipline of taking time to post… was difficult to rest from…

Pride… raised up… I haven’t missed a day in over a year… how can I stop now…?

Fear of man… joined in… What will those who read think… when I don’t post…? That I failed…?

Compromise… made its case… I’ll just make the drive to the wi-fi source and post… “a day of rest…”

The one word… it continued… Rest… echoing between each temptation…

Finally… I rested… in the rest…

Obedience… it is not about me… or others…
it’s not about feelings… or sacrifice…
it’s about doing…
what He says…

Even when it's… Rest...

King Saul… he learned the hard way… through the prophet Samuel…

“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is like the sin of divination,
and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,
he has rejected you as king.”
1Samuel 15:22-23

Obedience… is trusting Him…  not your own heart… or your own understanding… but Him alone…

Jesus Himself… says…

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?...”
Luke 6:46

Obedience… is about listening… with a heart of love… to the Lord… and doing what He says…

This is love for God: to obey his commands.
And his commands are not burdensome.
1John 5:3

Obedience… is not trusting routine… but Him… even when… it’s uncomfortable…
