Develope a Palate

Develope a Palate
Daily intake of the Word nourishes the Spirit. Jeremiah's Menu is an exercise in recognizing God's Word made flesh in and around me. Eating the Word in a way that supplies the spiritual nutrients needed to grow. The Menu is offered with the hope of inspiring you to taste and see that the Lord is good. Bon Appetite!

Quote Du Jour

Quote du Jour
Christians may differ on a variety of points, but they have all one spiritual appetite; and if we cannot all feel alike, we can all feed alike on the bread of life sent down from heaven. At the table of fellowship with Jesus we are one bread and one cup. As the loving cup goes round we pledge one another heartily therein. Get nearer to Jesus, and you will find yourself linked more and more in spirit to all who are like yourself, supported by the same heavenly manna. ---Charles Spurgeon, Morning and Evening

trapped

There was a story on the news this morning about three middle school girls who disregarded the boundaries and warnings set for their safety.

On the lowest floor of their school was a door to the elevator shaft. Out of curiosity they entered the door and let it shut behind them. I imagine they thought it was quite an adventure until the elevator began to descend. They tried to get out but the door locked behind them. They were trapped.

I listened to the recording of the 911 call the girls made from a cell phone. Quickly giving the name of the school, telling where they were in the building, and that the elevator was coming down... then screaming... a girl begging: lift it up... lift it up... screaming still in the background.

Later, while walking on my treadmill, it came to mind that this is a picture of sin. Out of curiosity we cross the boundaries that God has set for us in His Word. We disregard the warnings. We open the door and let it close behind us... it's fun for awhile, until we find ourselves about to be crushed... we cannot get out on our own...

We are trapped. Someone has to rescue us.

The story about the middle school girls had a happy ending... the rescuers responded to the call... it took forty minutes but they were rescued. A girl was shown with her foot wrapped. They had tried to hold the elevator car up with their feet. Minimal injuries considering what could have happened.

Some of us live our lives recklessly and end up in situations where we recognize our need and we call for help. But all of us apart from Christ are standing in a place of death. Unfortunately, not everyone sees the danger and they never make the call for help.

Every story has the potential for a happy ending. Jesus died for everyone and the rescue is immediate if you will just make the call.

...for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Romans 10:13

Unless we call on the name of the Lord for salvation, we are forever trapped in sin and will be crushed. There is no way out without Him.
