Develope a Palate

Develope a Palate
Daily intake of the Word nourishes the Spirit. Jeremiah's Menu is an exercise in recognizing God's Word made flesh in and around me. Eating the Word in a way that supplies the spiritual nutrients needed to grow. The Menu is offered with the hope of inspiring you to taste and see that the Lord is good. Bon Appetite!

Quote Du Jour

Quote du Jour
Christians may differ on a variety of points, but they have all one spiritual appetite; and if we cannot all feel alike, we can all feed alike on the bread of life sent down from heaven. At the table of fellowship with Jesus we are one bread and one cup. As the loving cup goes round we pledge one another heartily therein. Get nearer to Jesus, and you will find yourself linked more and more in spirit to all who are like yourself, supported by the same heavenly manna. ---Charles Spurgeon, Morning and Evening

Psalm 119:Gimmel

The third letter of the Aleph-Bet is Gimmel (geeh-mel), and brings us to the third stanza of Psalm 119.

Read Psalm 119:17-24

Gimmel is for "stranger" or "sojourner" -- a temporary resident.

I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me. Psalm 119:19

God's Word becomes immensely precious to us when we realize that we are transients traveling through hostile territory. Once we have surrendered to Jesus, the one true Lord, we become His servants and His way is the way of safety. Jesus opens our eyes to the truth of our reality. Things are not as they appear to be.

Since the Fall (not the season but the act of sin committed by Adam and Eve in the Garden) people, whom God gave rule over the world (Genesis 1:28), traded their Heavenly Father for the "father of lies" (John 8:44) by listening to the devil rather than obeying God. Since then Satan has been the "prince of this world" (John 12:31). An arrangement which God has allowed for a time, honoring the choice of those He created.

However, this arrangement makes the world a dangerous place for those who follow Jesus. God's Word provides the direction and solace we need as we travel.

Those who do not know God and live their lives deceived by the enemy heap scorn and contempt on God's people. The "rulers sit together and slander" followers of Christ. But we must remember that people are NOT the enemy.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

The battleground we walk through is not physical...it is spiritual. We are fighting an unseen enemy, one we can only discern through the power of the Holy Spirit. We do not fight the way the world does, our weapons are spiritual weapons filled with divine power (2Corinthians 10:4).

Journeying through this world entrenched in spiritual warfare, obedience to God's Word keeps us on the path of life (v. 17). Keeping His statutes cleanses our wounds and heals the battle scars (v. 22). God's Word is our counselor and a source of delight (v. 24), an encouragement to face the daily battle. Ask God to open your eyes that you might see wonderful things in His law (Psalm 110:18).

Arm yourself with Scripture.

...the sword of the Spirit... is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:17
